Food relation to acne


Acne is a complex skin condition, and its causes are still not fully known. Usually, it is impacted by our hormonal imbalance. When it comes to food relation to acne, we are constantly told which ‘bad foods’ we should avoid. However, there isn’t sufficient scientific evidence to back up the diet links to acne. Your diet cannot cause as well as cannot cure acne.

Nevertheless, there are certain nutritional components that can have a positive effect on your skin and help reduce acne.

I would like to list out a few, as not only are these components vital for your overall health but they can also help relieve your acne. To make things simpler for you, I will provide some food suggestions you can easily find in your local market or supermarket this summer alongside them:

  • Vitamin A is the essential component that impacts the skin’s health

  • Antioxidants:

    • Vitamin C – antioxidant

Foods you should try this summer:

  • Vegetables such as spinach, bell pepper, carrots, pumpkin, and tomatoes (vitamin A)
  • Eggs (vitamin A and omega 6)
  • Nuts and seeds (omega 3 and omega 6)
  • Watermelon with seeds (vitamin C, omega 3 and omega 6)
  • Fish (omega-3)
  • Whole grains (low glycemic foods)
