Detoxing from the comfort of your home

As I’ve said many times before, achieving great skin goes far beyond the products and treatments we choose to invest in. While they can help, it also comes down to our health and wellness. Right now, as gyms have closed and we’re being encouraged to stay indoors as much as possible, I wanted to share my wisdom on how we can detox from the comfort of our own home. Achieving a sustainable regime for the good of our health often means we need to be adaptable. So, now seems like a great time to focus on how we can boost our immunity and detox from our homes, or anywhere in the world.

Focus on stimulating your lymphatic system.

Our lymphatic system works hand in hand with our cardiovascular system to keep our blood and lymphatic fluid levels balanced, working hard to flush toxins out of her body. As well as balancing, it also helps us to carry immune cells throughout the body to help fight off infections.

To keep us feeling healthy, especially while we’re indoors, we should do what we can to boost both our lymphatic and cardiovascular system. Here are three ways we can do precisely that:

  • Drink plenty of water; just because you might not be as active as usual, we should still drink at least 2 litres of water every day.
  • Move regularly: whether you’re picking up a YouTube yoga video or you’re fortunate enough to have some gym equipment in your home, it’s essential that you exercise regularly if you can.
  • Try your own lymphatic massage; although it might not be quite the same as treatment with me, we can try a lymphatic massage at home. If you have a facial roller, you can target your lymph nodes and vessels to help to boost circulation and to detox.

Be mindful of your diet.

As your favourite detox café or restaurant has shut down, it can be easy to let our diet slip. Instead of treating this period like Christmas, where we can all be guilty of overindulging, we should be more mindful of our diet than ever now. Rather than reaching for sugary foods and unhealthy drinks as we attempt to eat away the stress, we need to be incorporating the vitamins and minerals our body needs into our diets. If you’ve switched your diet as a result of isolation, your skin will soon show the negative effects.

For example, if we’re not getting as much sunlight as normal, our body is probably crying out for vitamin D. So, we should compensate with our diet and supplements where we can. The same goes for Vitamin C, Zinc and all of the other essential nutrients we need to stay healthy. Remember, great skin starts from the inside out.

Nail your skincare ritual.

If you’ve been eyeing up a 10-part skincare ritual for a little while now, there’s no better time to try it out. This goes for our entire body, not just our face. From our fingers to our toes, we need to be looking after every inch of our body, inside and out. From dry brushing and deep salt scrubs to moisturiser and oils, now is not the time to be neglecting our skin. If you’ve been guilty of it until now, use the opportunity to hone in on your ritual and find out what truly works for you.

Remember, I’m here to help. I’ll be on hand with expert advice as and when you need some guidance. No matter the question or dilemma, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re all in this together!
